Series 2 of record group 72-9 consists of three sets of records of the Michigan Department of Conservation, Administrative Services Division, Engineering and Architecture Section (1953-66). The first set of records are budget requests (1959-61) for the Dept. of Conservation's operating budget, including requested, recommended and revised figures for projects in lands, forestry, geology, parks and work camps. The second set of records are the five year capital outlay requirements (1953-66). The final set of records are the lake level control reports (1956-57), for Hubbard, Long, Higgins, Gulliver and Houghton lakes. Provides previous history of lake conditions, existing conditions, and suggested remedial measures.

The 1925 Clark-McNary Act expanded the provisions of 1911 Federal legislation creating the National Forest System (Weeks Law). It made it easier for the United States Department of Agriculture to buy land from those sellers whose property was located within the National Forest System.
